“I love you I lied”

I woke up the next morning and everything was different. She was lying next to me and as I scratched her soft pink tummy she wriggled her legs and snuffled in my hair. I grabbed her foot and she growled, then she flipped over and burrowed beneath the covers. I dived in after her and we rolled over together, warm and close, the bedspread slipping to the floor and the sheets bunched around us. I threw my arms around her neck and kissed her hairy snout. She licked my face and snorted gently against my neck. I woke again and everything was different. I looked at her picture, yellowing on the dresser, and turned to hug you instead.

“I love you,” I lied.
